It’s the first weekend of June, meaning it’s time for locals to go out with their friends and family by attending and enjoying the events happening around Denton.
This includes the Denton Main Street Association’s First Friday events happening around downtown Denton and PRIDENTON, which is kicking off Pride Month with its annual community chalking event along the downtown Denton Square.
Friday and Saturday

Tickets: Single-day passes are $20, and weekend passes are $30 or $40 for VIP. Note: This event is for ages 18 and up only.
Denton-based What the Femme!? Podcast is hosting FemmeFest ‘23, featuring drag, burlesque and various other performances to raise money for the Denton Bail Fund and the Texas Equal Access Fund.
The two-day event is described as a celebration of LGBTQ+ pride and using art as a form of protest.

June’s First Friday events around downtown Denton include the First Friday Apple Tree Operation Backpack, where Interfaith Ministries of Denton is partnering with Denton Independent School District to collect backpacks to give to students.
Backpacks can be dropped off at Interfaith Ministries of Denton, 1107 N. Elm St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Grab your basket and attend the Picnic at the PAAC for lunch, at the Greater Denton Arts Council, 400 E. Hickory St., and will feature jazz band John Racina and Friends from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The Greater Denton Arts Council will also host a Summer Exhibitions Reception for its three feature exhibitions at 6 p.m. This includes the Tree of Life: A Denton Quilt Guild Exhibit, The Golden Triangle Woodturners Exhibit and Cory Lind’s Landscape Paintings.
Patchouli Joe’s Books & Indulgences, 221 W. Hickory St., will feature poets reading their work during First Friday Poetry Readings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Attend the opening reception for SOJOURN, a new exhibit at UNT CoLab, 207 N Elm St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Forty art pieces from 25 local to international artists who explore various human experiences and emotions will be on display from June 2 to June 29. The exhibition will be an in-depth look into the human condition, including growth, learning, emotions, aspirations, morality, conflicts and death.
Local Denton artists Benjamin Folsom, Haleigh Brown and Marcy Lilley, as well as others, are featured in the SOJOURN exhibit.
Norman Roscoe, 109 W. Hickory St., will have live music from 8 to 9 p.m. featuring Saint Claire and The BenYays from 8 to 9 p.m.

Chalk it up with PRIDENTON and the Texas Equal Access Fund for its annual community chalking event at the downtown Denton Square.

Stop by Denton’s weekly farmer’s market to shop from local vendors in downtown Denton. This week, live music from Dunashay Thomas is from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.; Daniel Gussman from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; and the Chesterfield Kings with Bob Olsen, Reverend Doctor Muddy Gates, Bill Cornish, and featuring “Stunt” King Texas Slim, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Take pictures and meet with the pets in the running for Denton’s pet mayor this year. If you haven’t voted or checked out submissions yet, they close on June 2 at 11:59 p.m.

The Denton Diablos soccer team will look for the win against Austin United FC, as the team has a strong start with a 3-1 record.

Grab a drink while trying to catch the demon murderer before it’s too late. Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game of five to 20 players on opposing teams where a demon is on the loose, murdering by night and disguised in human form by day. It’s a murder mystery to solve with friends, or make some alliances.
June also marks d20 Tavern’s one-year anniversary, so T-shirts and merch, as well as more special events will be coming up this month.
