Squall line

An ominous squall line brought high winds and hail last Sunday as a dry line moved across Denton County, as seen from Gregory Road a few miles north of Bolivar.

Why spring is so stormy

Springtime is severe weather season in North Texas. While severe storms can happen any time of the year, spring is the most active. April and May are the two busiest months for tornadoes. The reason is a combination of factors. The jet stream is still quite strong, producing strong upper-level winds and plenty of energy for storms. There’s still a big temperature spread across the nation to help develop storms as cold and warm air clash. A weaker summer jet stream means less severe weather.
