If you live in Krum, like myself, you’ve gotten your new bins and new pickup dates. At the request of the city, Frontier trash service will only pick up trash that is in the bin to “keep the city clean.”
I think this is the wrong decision because it places an undue burden of having to buy additional trash bins on the citizens who already pay their taxes for this vital service. There are better ways of keeping our city clean without restricting how much households throw out.
Adding additional pickup dates during the week could be a solution. We do not want people to have rotting garbage in their garage or outside their house because they couldn’t fit it all in the bin that week. There is also a risk of public dumping of trash due to service only coming once a week and the bin-only policy. Service twice a week would be a good solution to this problem.
Another solution: allowing non-Frontier bins to be picked up. The notice says “Only bins that say Frontier will be collected.” We should allow people to use their own bins that they already have. It’s wasteful to be forced to order a whole new bin when citizens already have bins that have many more years until they need to be replaced.
The Krum City Council needs to reevaluate their decision on this policy or just repeal it entirely.
