Gerald and Virginia Stone celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children on Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, Denton.
Gerald and Virginia Stone celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by their children on Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, Denton.
The couple was married on June 8, l955, at Southside Baptist Church, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on the bride’s parent’s 25th wedding anniversary.
 The Stones came to Denton in May, l966, when construction began for the new location of First Baptist Church, which formerly stood at Oak and Carroll Streets in Denton. Gerald served there as the supervising architect, and soon thereafter opened his own architectural practice, later knownas The Architectural Collective,working in partnership with Russell Bates until l998.
Since retirement, Gerald has authored four books, pursued his love of pen and ink drawing, pie-baking, and rock and fossil collecting. Virginia has, over the years, enjoyed many forms of needlework art, majoring on quilting in the last fifteen years. Both are active in First Baptist Church, where Virginia taught children and sang in the church choir for many years, and Gerald continues to teach Bible Studies.
Gerald and Virginia have four children, daughters, Julie Nelson, of Denton, Rebecca Stone (Capt, retired, USN), of Monterey, California, Martha Stone, of Sacramento, California, and son, Nathan Stone, of Denton, as well as son-in-law, Tim Nelson, of Denton.They have five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mrs. Todd) Croley, of Fort Worth, Craig Cornish, of Weatherford, Texas, Chris Cornish, of Denton, and Ruth and David Callaway, of Monterey, California.
