As Denton High’s football program looks to build on a resurgent season this coming fall, one of its key returners has solidified his collegiate home.
Offensive lineman Hayden Gunter announced Monday his commitment to play college football at Stanford University after completing his senior season.
The three-star recruit saw his recruitment kick into gear this summer, starting with a scholarship offer from Texas Tech on March 10, according to his 247Sports profile. Gunter then received offers from Power Five programs Vanderbilt, Duke, TCU, Kansas, Utah, Stanford and Florida State along with a few other Group of Five offers.
Stanford was one of the latest schools to offer Gunter, doing so on June 2 before Gunter committed to the Cardinal just over a week later. He is ranked the No. 101 offensive tackle in his class, according to 247Sports.
Gunter helped pave the way for the Broncos’ strong running game last season, led by star running back Coco Brown.
Brown, who is headed to Sam Houston State, was the Denton Record-Chronicle’sAll-Area Offensive Player of the Year last season after tallying 1,887 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground, running behind Gunter and others.
The two were important parts of Denton High’s turnaround season as it went 4-6 after posting consecutive one-win seasons. The Broncos finished one win shy of the playoffs as they fell to local squad Lake Dallas in a win-and-in regular-season finale.
