What’s a Marfa front?

A dry line is an imaginary line dividing moist air on the east side from dry air on the west side. It usually lives out in West Texas during the spring, occasionally moving east into North Texas, before sloshing back to the west. Thunderstorms like to develop along that boundary. Dry air is heavy and it forces the lighter humid air to rise, sometimes leading to storms. In the old days, the dry line was known as a Marfa front, taking the name of the town out in West Texas where the dry line lives.
