LUBBOCK - Betty Kathryn Smith, 88, died peacefully in her home on June 8, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral: 12 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023, in Greenwood Chapel, Fort Worth. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Greenwood.
Betty was born in Upshur County, Texas and was one of six children. Betty attended Gilmer High School, East Texas Baptist University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, then received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of North Texas.
Betty was the lead teacher for FWISD’s high school special needs program. Betty showered her students with so much love that they became her second family.
Betty spent most of her life living on the west side of Fort Worth, Texas. Free time was spent reading, sewing, cross-stitching, talking on the phone to her brothers and sisters, and gathering with family and friends. Betty loved Our Lord and was in church every Sunday singing loudly and smiling proudly from the church choir.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Hobson and Mattie Adams; and her siblings, Dorothy Huckabee, Mary Thomas, Gerald Adams, Kay Shaw and John Adams.
Survivors: Sons, Stephen Smith (Brenda), James Smith (Judy) and Terry Smith (Jeannie); daughter, Kathy Ramsey; grandchildren, Ashley, Shanda, Ryan, Jordan and Leighton; and her great-grandchildren, Luke, Macie, Garrett, Rylie, Braden, Adeline, Finn, Tillie, Pearson, and Jensen.
