DALLAS — Severe weather conditions still loom over the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but triple-digit temperatures are in the forecast, according to National Weather Service meteorologists.
A storm moving eastward brought large hail, street flooding and high winds Sunday evening to many parts of North Texas, causing travel delays and knocking out power for thousands of people. Storms on Monday were expected to be more “isolated,” compared to Sunday, said Monique Sellers, a NWS Fort Worth meteorologist
“Isolated as in, not everyone is going to get the same thing,” Sellers said Monday. “You’re going to see a little more space between the storms.”
In areas south of Dallas-Fort Worth, weather conditions on Monday had been favorable to producing tornados, Sellers said.
More storms are possible Tuesday and damaging hail and strong winds remain the main threats.
The worst of the storms are expected between 5 and 10 p.m., and there may also be some storms Wednesday.
Bad weather late Sunday left thousands in the Dallas-Fort Worth area without power for hours. Emergency crews responded to almost two dozen major crashes and 38 calls about utility wires and more in a less-than-two-hour timeframe. Storms also caused delays Sunday at Dallas Love Field and DFW International Airport.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for multiple North Texas counties, including Denton, Dallas, Tarrant and Parker, throughout Sunday evening.
Hail from Sunday’s storms measured between 3-4 inches in some parts of North Texas, including near Rockwall and Flower Mound, Sellers said.
Starting Thursday, the Dallas area will experience hot temperatures. The early summer heat will continue with highs climbing into the mid-90s and low 100s, according to the weather service.
“We’re going to start warming up pretty good,” Sellers said, adding that hot and dry conditions are expected to continue through the weekend.
